Dear Hallett Families,By now you have received the news from DPS about our remote learning plans as the year begins. While the school year will still begin on Monday, August 24th, all students will be learning remotely until October 16th .I hope to keep you up to date on important information as plans change. Please continue checking your email, texts, and the Hallett website or Facebook page. You will be contacted by your child’s teacher the week of August 17th. At that time you will also receive school supply lists. We hope to have more detailed information for you at that time as well. Thank you for your patience as we all work to prepare for the year.If you are wondering, “When can I receive a Chromebook for my child?”, please note that DPS will be handling the distribution of devices this Fall. Please stay tuned for more information. We believe these will be distributed during the 2nd or 3rd week of August. How will meals work during remote learning? Meal distribution is ongoing through both DPS and some local Rec Centers. Please visit this page to learn more about locations and times for breakfast/lunch/dinner meal pickups.ACTION STEPS FOR EVERY FAMILY

LEARNING PLAN CLARIFICATIONSWith the Annual Family Update now available, DPS is asking that families complete this online registration as soon as they are able. It is during this registration that you will select the “In-Person” or “Virtual” learning plan options. This is highly important for our planning at Hallett.

  • In-Person Learning: This option will keep you with a Hallett teacher, with your assigned class. This option will begin with remote learning and hopefully move to In-Person learning when safe.
  • Virtual Learning: This option will keep your student learning remotely 100% of the time, but it will keep your child enrolled at Hallett. Virtual Learning will be run by the District. There is no guarantee you will receive a teacher from Hallett.
  • Note: you will not lose your seat at Hallett if you choose Virtual learning, however you will not be guaranteed a Hallett teacher with this option at this time. DPS will do their best to keep you with a teacher from our area.
  • Note: public education funding is tied to enrollment. I want to make sure families are aware that withdrawing from your child’s public school also removes significant funding from that school.
  • Note: DPS is asking that once you make a selection, you remain in that program through December.

If you have more specific questions about learning experiences this Fall, DPS has put together a lengthy FAQ pagewith many answers to common questions about this new school year including health and safety protocols. Please visit this pagefor more information.

I am grateful for our Hallett community.

With love,

Dominique Jefferson, Principal
